D&D 'Fifth Edition' Release info

There has been a lot of talk on the internet this week about the fifth edition of Dungeons and Dragons, now just branded as 'D&D'.  Wizards Of The Coast have finally announced release dates and pricing and there are some images on their website of the products.

The 'Starter Set' will be released (in the U.S. at least) on 15th of July.  There not a lot of detail about what it contains and some official tweets from WOTC's DnD twitter account suggest the starter set is aimed at DMs, with player character creation being available free of charge on their website, which is an interesting development.

The now traditional three 'Core Rulebooks' will see staggered releases from August.

What do you think about the branding and release info so far?  Did you take part in the play test or are you excited about the next iteration of D&D?  Our forum thread is here

Product Review: Unique Dice Towers

Product Review: Unique Dice Towers

"I use one of these Facebook page for Unique Dice Towers www.uniquedicetowers.com Dice Towers. The one I have is one that was made just prior to the Kickstarter Campaign, which was over funded, as most good ones are.
I have known the bloke who does these for years. He was one of the people who used to run an RPG Meetup and at one time helped run the worldwide organiser's group with me. He built his first laser himself, but the Kickstarter funding bought him a brand spanking new top range laser system. The one I have is actually part of the design process.
It works flawlessly. It breaks down into a box that holds your dice between games and reassembles from just two parts into a great little dice rolling tower. Pop your dice in the top and the mechanism rolls it and empties it out into a little tray for you to read the number.
John, who makes them, is a DM and player, just like any of you. His criteria was that it should never detract from play. It had to be of a height that did not obscure the view of DM/GM or the players. It had to make some noise, but not so much as to be a distraction to the game.
When it came time to arrange a Christmas present for 'Papa Zombie', I turned to John, who was just starting to consider allowing customers to provide artwork for him to use to make their dice tower. I provided the artwork, and in no time at all, I had Alan's present delivered. The 'side windows' were shaped like shotguns, and John thought the little cut out shotgun shapes were cool, so he included them in the delivery for free.
We also worked together a little on John's Cuthulhu themed tower, though in the end, he used the original artist's work to avoid possible copyright infringements. The Chaosium and Fantasy Flight people are well known for letting lawyers loose on anything they consider too close to 'theirs'.
I love my little Dice Tower. When you 'want more dice' but can't justify it, why not get one of these instead. You can buy it in several ply wood finishes, or several nice hardwoods. You can get it in pieces, to glue together into it's two parts yourself, or get it ready assembled. You can design your own cutouts, or choose from a bunch of ready made designs.
I'd buy one. In fact I did. More than once."

Beer & Pretzels 2014

This year is the 25th Beer and Pretzels weekend, a two day gaming event organised by Spirit Games and held in Burton Upon Trent on 17-18 May 2014

The atmosphere at previous events has been terrific and there is always a good selection of Card and Board games running as well as Tabletop Wargames and of course RPGs.

We will be attending and our forum thread for B&P 2014 can be found here.

Some fine local ale is available and true to the event name the organisers also usually provide complimentary pretzels.
